Eternals Star Weighs In On Makkari Vs. The Flash Speed Debate

Eternals star Lauren Ridloff weighs in on the debate as to whether or not Makkari is faster than DC’s most well-known speedster, The Flash.

Eternals actress Lauren Ridloff has chimed in on the debate of whether or not Makkari is faster than The Flash. The actress makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Eternals, which debuts this weekend. Eternals is directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao and introduces the MCU to a brand-new team of cosmic superheroes with a wide assortment of abilities.

Eternals centers its story on the titular group of immortal warriors. Each Eternal brings his or her own unique personality and set of skills to the team, such as Ikaris’ (Richard Madden) ability to fly and shoot laser beams from his eyes or Phastos’ (Brian Tyree Henry) genius intellect and inventing abilities. In the film, Ridloff portrays a deaf hero named Makkari, a speedster who can circumnavigate the planet in a matter of seconds and is romantically involved with Druig (Barry Keoghan).

Now, as Marvel brings a brand-new character with super-speed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Eternals, the age-old question of Marvel vs. DC heroes has once again reared its head. In fact, speaking with CineXpress (via Comicbook.com), Ridloff addressed speed comparisons between her character and DC’s Flash. She admitted that she thinks her character is faster than DC’s resident speedster and explained why. Read what Ridloff said below:

Okay, so this is a conversation I had with my son. When he first found out that I was going to be the fastest woman in the universe he said, ‘No you’re not.’ He brought over his laptop and looked into the computer and said, ‘Look! It’s true! Flash is faster than Makkari.’ But I’m sure Makkari…because she travels faster than the speed of sound.

So, it appears that Ridloff would put her money on Makkari in a race between her and The Flash, even if Eternals specifically took steps to avoid comparisons in the first place. That said, her son still appears to have some favor towards The Scarlet Speedster. Given the divide between their opinions, it would appear that the debate will most likely continue. However, given the fact that Makkari can break the sound barrier, that seems to be enough for Ridloff to declare victory for Makkari.

Even with Ridloff’s take on the situation, it’s likely that this debate will never be settled. DC and Marvel fans love to pit their heroes against one another in hypothetical battles, and until a proper DC and Marvel crossover film happens (which is not impossible, but absolutely a long way off), fans may have to settle for a race between Makkari and other MCU speedsters instead. Eternals is currently in theaters.
