After bumping into Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield at the GQ Awards, Lil Nas X has joked that he will be playing Miles Morales in the MCU.
Lil Nas X has joked that he will be playing Miles Morales in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home after sharing a photo of himself with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. The 22-year-old rapper, also known as Montero Lamar Hill, released his debut album, Montero, earlier this year after he shot to fame back in 2018 with the smash-hit single “Old Town Road.” Lil Nas X has expressed his love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe on multiple occasions, even replicating the Marvel movie intro in the trailer for his recent album release.
Anticipation for Spider-Man: No Way Home is at an all-time high with the film’s release now just weeks away and with the long-running rumors that both Garfield and Tobey Maguire could be returning to reprise their iconic roles still going strong. For years now, fans have rallied to see a live-action Miles Morales join the MCU, either alongside Peter Parker or in his own standalone film. This desire was only amplified following the success of 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which went on to win Best Animated Feature at the 2019 Academy Awards.
Now, Lil Nas X has joked that he will be taking on the mantle of Morales in the upcoming Spider-Man threequel after he bumped into both Holland and Garfield at the GQ Man of the Year awards recently. Taking to Twitter, the rapper responded to a sweet photo of the trio smiling away as they posed for a photo at the awards ceremony. The “Industry Baby” singer joked “the rumors are true, i will be playing miles morales.” The photo quickly garnered a lot of attention, with many expressing their desire to see Lil Nas X within the MCU. Check out the tweet below.
While it would certainly be exciting to see Lil Nas X star as Morales in an upcoming MCU project, it could potentially create a slight plot hole as the rapper recently acknowledged the use of his song in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which fans had theorized could mean that the singer survived Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Lil Nas X is also frequently the subject of some impressive fan art and fan-castings in which he is imagined as various comic-book characters. The singer’s recent appearance at the Met Gala was transformed into Wonder Woman’s armor from Wonder Woman 1984 due to its likeness to Gal Gadot’s costume within the film.
While it is likely that audiences will eventually see Morales within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what lies ahead for a live-action iteration of this beloved character remains largely unknown at this stage. With the animated Into the Spider-Verse 2 currently set for release late next year, fans will certainly be excited to see what Shameik Moore’s Morales has been up to since the events of the previous film. Perhaps audiences can hold out for a nod to Morales within Spider-Man: No Way Home, but for now, let it be known that Lil Nas X is certainly keen to be considered for the part.
