In 2022, SEMA expanded its services by establishing a second location in Detroit, complementing the original SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, California. The SEMA Garage program offers various services, including OEM measuring sessions, scanning services, an ADAS technology center, and dynos for testing emissions compliance in diesel and gasoline vehicles. Since its inception in 2014, the California facility has assisted companies in obtaining over 700 exemption orders for components.
The Detroit facility recently received certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as a Recognized Independent Emissions Lab. This approval makes it the 14th qualified location in the United States, with SEMA owning two of these recognized labs. These emissions testing labs in Detroit and Diamond Bar specialize in developing and certifying aftermarket components, making them unique in their focus. Both SEMA Garage facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and experienced staff to facilitate the regulatory approval process for aftermarket automotive components.
