East Village Place Residents Embrace Olympic Spirit with Unique Games and Celebrations
At East Village Place retirement community, the summer Olympics are in full swing—albeit with a unique twist. Residents have embraced the Olympic spirit with their own series of fun and engaging games.

“It’s all about bringing everyone together for some enjoyment and a bit of fun,” said Executive Director Patti Castelli.
The festivities began with a ceremonial torch relay, where residents from both floors passed the torch from door to door, culminating in a grand lighting of the caldron to officially launch their games, all set to the iconic Olympic theme song.
Judith Gagnon, the Community Life Director, curated a variety of games for the event. While some are inspired by traditional Olympic sports, others have a creative twist.
“Today we’re featuring target shooting and tomorrow we have axe throwing. We’ve also got an egg-and-spoon race, a relay race, and even a unique wet t-shirt contest where participants use squirt guns to drench t-shirts hanging on a clothesline,” Gagnon explained.
Residents are always enthusiastic about participating. When cups are knocked down during the games, the room erupts with cheers and laughter, accompanied by waving American flags.
The event has seen a lively turnout from residents, associates, caregivers, and family members, all vying for gold, silver, or bronze medals in the various competitions.
“It’s incredibly engaging and gets our residents actively involved,” Castelli said. “Everyone’s having a blast, from the residents to the family members and associates. It’s great for well-being and creates a wonderful atmosphere.”
Gagnon added that seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter is the best part of the event.
The opening ceremony will be celebrated with a champagne ball tonight, featuring appetizers, music, photography, and more, ensuring a festive conclusion to their Olympic-themed celebrations.
