Edward Witkowski, a co-owner of the downtown Traverse City coffee shop Morsels, made an appearance in court on Monday to confront the charges leveled against him. The allegations include:

One count of using a computer to commit a crime, classified as a felony with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.Three counts of capturing/distributing an image of an unclothed person, also felonies carrying a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison each. One count of lying to a peace officer, categorized as a misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of 93 days in jail.Witkowski was bound over on these charges, as reported by WPBN, and is scheduled to return to court on April 12 for further proceedings.

According to WPBN, the accusations against Witkowski stem from allegations that he installed at least one hidden camera in the women’s restroom and possessed videos captured by the camera on his phone. These charges were the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Traverse City Police Department over several months.

The suspicion of a hidden camera first arose when a parent of an employee reported a concerning discovery made by her daughter in the workplace restroom. Multiple employees cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation, which ultimately led to the filing of charges against Witkowski. For a more detailed account of the investigation, WPBN provides additional information.

In response to these developments, Morsels, situated on East Front Street along the Boardman River, has temporarily ceased operations.
