Notably, second-round cornerback Kamari Lassiter did not play. While this doesn’t rule him out as a starter, he was listed as one on the team’s unofficial depth chart. However, the Texans’ other two second-day draft picks—Notre Dame offensive tackle Blake Fisher and USC safety Calen Bullock—both made appearances and started.

Calen Bullock made an impression with a standout performance. In the second quarter, he delivered a clean hit on Tommy Sweeney, causing a fumble. Despite celebrating prematurely when the ball ended up behind him and was recovered by Chicago, Bullock continued to contribute significantly. He later disrupted a pass intended for Collin Johnson and made a crucial tackle against Khalil Herbert, potentially saving a touchdown.

Bullock played primarily as a one-deep safety, patrolling the middle of the field. He appeared to be the Texans’ most effective defensive player, leading the team with five total tackles and three solo tackles, all in the first half. Houston GM Nick Caserio knew that Bullock needed to add bulk, but his physicality was evident in his first NFL action, even though he was facing backups during the preseason. Aside from his early fumble celebration, Bullock was one of the most impressive players on the field.

Blake Fisher started at left tackle and had a relatively quiet performance during the first half. For an offensive lineman, this is generally a positive sign. Fisher was effective in both run and pass blocking, allowing no pressures and maintaining solid performance in run plays. Although he faced backup players, the 59th overall pick demonstrated promise in his limited action.

Additionally, tight end Cade Stover, a fourth-round draft pick, had a notable outing. He caught two passes for 26 yards, showcasing his potential as a contributor to the offense.
