Apple AirTag Helps Miami Family Track and Recover Stolen Luggage During Holiday Travel
A family vacation took an Apple AirTag unexpected turn when a Miami family’s luggage was stolen during their Christmas break travels. However, the use of technology, specifically an Apple AirTag, proved instrumental in recovering their stolen belongings.

Upon landing at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, the family discovered that one of their suitcases was missing from the baggage claim. Catherine Gavino, determined to seek justice, relied on her Apple AirTag hidden inside her parents’ luggage to track the stolen items.

Using her cellphone, Gavino located the AirTag, revealing that it was on Interstate 85, heading west toward Gastonia. The family promptly gathered their remaining bags, rented a car, and began following the AirTag’s signal. Despite being unable to pinpoint the exact location in a neighborhood, they persevered.
The AirTag’s location tracking eventually ceased at a certain point, prompting the family to temporarily halt their search. However, they resumed their efforts on Christmas Day, hoping for better luck.
After dropping off family members at the airport, Gavino checked the AirTag’s location one more time, leading her to a house in Gastonia. Contacting the police, she not only discovered her family’s missing luggage but also another suitcase belonging to a different victim whose belongings were stolen at the airport.
Gastonia police revealed that another individual had reported a similar issue with an AirTag, indicating a pattern of thefts. Unfortunately, upon recovery, the family found that almost everything in their luggage was gone, with the police suspecting that the thieves may have sold the clothes for money.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Gavino emphasized the importance of the AirTag, stating that without it, she wouldn’t have been able to locate the stolen items and pursue justice.
