During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Comer, aged 30, shared a heartwarming message she received from Foster, aged 61, after the Silence of the Lambs star attended Comer’s Broadway debut as Tessa Ensler in Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie.
Recounting the experience on the talk show, Comer revealed that Foster left a thoughtful note on a ripped-out page from the Playbill. Although she didn’t disclose the entire message, the way Foster signed it conveyed a sweet message of encouragement: “From the other Jodie.” This gesture left Comer amused, responding, “No, I’m the other Jodie,” with laughter.
Comer initially performed in Prima Facie on London’s West End in 2022 before the play transitioned to Broadway in the spring of 2023. Her portrayal of Tessa earned her the 2023 Tony Award for best actress in a leading role, depicting a criminal defense lawyer whose perspective on defending clients accused of sexual assault undergoes a transformation after becoming a victim herself.
Reflecting on the differences between British and American audiences with fellow guest Alan Cumming, Comer noted the unique practice on Broadway where the audience applauds before the play begins, highlighting the challenge it poses for actors trying to time their lines amid the enthusiastic applause.
