Comparatively, last year saw four deaths and 26,363 confirmed cases of chickenpox, as documented by the directorate of health services.

Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, Chairman of the Research Cell at the Indian Medical Association, Kerala, underscores the heightened risk of contracting the disease amidst rising temperatures. Chickenpox, a highly contagious ailment, spreads through physical contact with infected individuals or through airborne transmission.

Certain demographics, Dr. Jayadevan emphasizes, are particularly vulnerable to complications, including infants, immunocompromised individuals, and pregnant women, where risks to the fetus may arise, sometimes resulting in fatal outcomes.

Prevention emerges as a crucial strategy, stresses Dr. Rajeev, highlighting the availability of effective vaccination to combat the disease.

Dr. Sulphi Noohu, former President of IMA Kerala, notes the seasonal pattern of chickenpox outbreaks, peaking alongside temperature spikes, urging vigilance and preventive measures.

Vaccination stands as a pivotal measure in averting pox, adds Dr. Sulphi, alongside accessible treatment options.

Early detection and prompt treatment are paramount, Dr. Sulphi asserts, particularly for vulnerable populations and individuals with underlying health conditions, where vaccination remains a recommended safeguard.
